First aid??

Hi, can anyone tell me if a one day course for a firstaider under St Johns ambulance is sufficient for a self employed arborist? I find it all a bit of a minefield, where H&S is concerned. I did email them to ask that simple question, but they referred me back to their site, to only scroll through lots of pages, and couldn't really find a direct answer. Any help on firstaid would be much appreciated. Thanks

I think the one day course is for staff in low hazard environments.

Best to do the 3 day FAAW course and update with 1 day refresher every 3 days IMO.

Currently mine have lapsed and I just have the appointed person competency, which means where I work there should always be a first aider but if it's him that gets ill I should be competent to cope

the one day course ticks a box, that's about it

personally id go for a course that is industry specific, how to put a sling on isn't really relevant imo. Dealing with catastrophic bleeds and other life threatening injuries is what you need

we did a course through treekit and galahad associates, it was eye opening to say the least

A video from the Live Scenario part of the Treekit/Galahad course.

You can sit in a village hall with St. John's if you like... but this is a dedicated Arb course utilising proper trauma kit for when it's really bad. Not stuff covered particularly well by standard first aid courses or the contents of your average kit.
