My 362 is a good saw. I haven't used a new husky for a while but all I hear about them is they are always going back to the dealer to be mended but my 362 is nearly 12 months old and not missed a beat

Gotta agree with the 361, it's an excellent all round saw. One of the best I've used... Until recently.

My ported 357xp is now my absolute favourite saw.

Pick up a tidy s/h one, get it ported, and you won't look back.

I'd be worried about buying the 362, judging by Stihls "new improved" range so far.

Why does the 261 get so much slating? I have one for doing firewood, granted not hard core arb work and really like it. Yes I've read the clutch bearing goes but once a year or so put a new one in (£10) as a service part and off you go again.

Weight and balance feels good so whats wrong with it?.

Presuming you are vat reg'd this is only 30 quid past your budget:

Husqvarna 550XP chainsaw (50.1cc) | F R Jones and Son and the very best you can buy in my opinion.

Yes the bar is made of swiss cheese, just replace it when it's worn or ad a sugihara bar to your order (again, the best value for money by far)

Or if you can stretch to 50 quid over £400 the 365 XT can be very easily modified to be a 372 XT and is the best value by far of any saw.

Husqvarna 365 X Torq chainsaw (70.7cc) | F R Jones and Son

Jones's have an extra discount on at the moment so good prices!

Would a Makita be a good choice I cannot justify the price of a stihl 362 for all the use I'd have for it im looking to spend no more than 400

yes i would definately consider a makita or a dolmar! if i had to buy a 50cc saw. from using a couple of dolmars they seem to punch well above their 50cc weight and seem v robust. and you can get em for about 400ish inc vat.
