I use the stihl splitting maul if the wedges come out, plenty weight in it for knocking in hi lifts and can be handy for busting rings apart on a job to carry them, although i would rather run the saw through than break a nut trying to split a load of logs!

14lb sledge with wooden handle not that fibreglass rubbish. Cut handle down to about 500mm long. Perfect for thrashing in tight access areas.

HI EGGS there you go mate now you have it cut the handle down when working on the pumps :thumbup1:thanks jon

Sorry I can't help on the make of a sledge hammer.

Saying that I think you should get some other bugger to swing it on days like this.

I've been swinging one all morning in this heat........Down in a sewage pumping-station......I only mentioned the last bit to make myself sound more glamourous.

I think I can smell the glamour from here 😁😁

Was using stumpy today to thrash some big ass track rod ends out. I want a 20lb one now. Man was it making me sweat today. Scaffold bar over the axle, get someone leaning on the end and beat seven shades of sh1t out of the steering case.

Don't get all macho get a 3lb lump hammer. You can pick it up easily and won't knacker your elbows using it and you won't smash your wedges to bits either.

Ok, so you'll not always need it but if you have an axe with hammer head, it's two tools in one. Whereas a lump, is a hammer both ways round.
