I had a visit many years ago, from the local planing department they said I need planing consent to have my 200 to 300 ton butt pile in a field at the back of my house.

I said it was the produce of forestry, which is agricuture and that it was agricultural land and could see no problem.

They asked me to write to them with my views,I said no,they asked why,and I said if I write to you,you will open a file with my name on it and start collecting my correspondence,so I'll just stick to taking you calls, thanks.

A few weeks later a receved a letter telling me that in 28 days there was going to be comity meet and they were going to discus my situation and that I may wish to make some representation.

I did nothing.

About 4 or 5 weeks later I receved a letter to say they had "discused" the situation and decided to.................

............take no further action at this time, that was more than 10 years ago and I have heard nothing since.

Exactly, at the end of the day it's not a pile of old washing machines dumped in a lay-by we're talking about - it's chipped up pieces of wood being stored on land that we own. I can't speak for the rest of the country, but down here people aren't all that offended by a pile of woodchip in an agricultural piece of land.

Ok, another thought if you are thinking of taking "produce" to another site for production of woodchip, you will need a composting license if you heap up Your chips!

Believe me, i live within half a mile of the EA offices, and they have eyes all over!

No experience of this in 5 years storing woodchip/logs in my field. Guess it depends on your area.

Yep it probably does and there are guys been doing it for forty years that have had visits this last year! In reality it has become more common in the last couple of yeras and probably will get more so as the EA play their part in pollution control etc

Isn't it sad - this is wood we're talking about, not household rubbish or the like.
