Think if I was buying again I'd get something along the lines of the Posch/Krpan/Uniforest PTO driven ones. Look so handy being able to adjust the splitting height to break down long large logs or put the table in for shorter logs.

Although not sure how much any of the above cost! They all look pretty much identical apart from the paint colour

Posch ain't cheap but they are an excellent machine. You get what you pay for. I would get a poach if I was buying again but I'm happy with the one I have.ImageUploadedByArbtalk1404734125.075670.jpg.df8b483a3af475a8f71e994ecb118ae3.jpg

Hi hodge what tractor your splitter on mate thanks Jon

that 2 way splitter was on display at the arb show 2 years ago, silly money, and didnt lend itself to CE certification( very difficult to work with a two hand lever on the split cycle)

Well, as I pointed to another forum frequenter.

The Krpan has the USP of very easy, almost even accidental conversion to one handed operation.

Purely for owner operator use.

Whether this was cunning Slovanian design or pure serindipity, I cannot say.

but wile handy nonetheless.

PS

Paul?( I am terrible with names)

yes I can see the ce/EC Conformity issues, and yes it was quite expensive.

But if importing direct for ones own use?

Perhaps.

Not a foggy notion, but probably? about the same as Riko/Uniforests offerings.

Anyway Marshalls Agric eng are the dealers.

They also do Dalen and that rather attractive German built bandsawmill

Hi all, im after some advice.

All my wood is arb arrisings, not much any good for a processor.... i bring back 3-10" in lenghts but bigger stuff is ringed up.

I dont know what makes are the ones to go for nor what is out there!

I would like a good cycle speed, more power and a better longer blade so splits in one

Hello Swinny

We were looking for a fast vertical in 2010 and went to APF to look at what's about. At that time the 20tonne Posch seemed best for us in terms of quality build and ease of use, also had quickest cycle as far as we could see. The knife is quite long on it.

It's mainly used for 1.1m billets, we shove a large oak block on it as a table when we split ugly rings and odds. We also got the slide on 4 way knife but rarely use it, think I forget to dig it out!

It was £3,150.00 plus vat and delivery and the 4 way was about £250 extra.

Was looking at Binderberger too, but liked the simplicity of the posch. (though use a Binderberger 30tonne horizontal as well).

There were cheaper machines than the posch, but not by a great amount.

Did see some arb guys using a vertical splitter that had control levers that also hold the log in place. Don't know whether they are any good, if you're planning on only splitting rings? The blade might have been shorter though.

All the best. John
