Reminded myself why i went from landys to japanese...

And yet the number of japanese made 4wd trucks working in the roughest environments in the world would outnumber LD 1000 to one. (no offence but how often in the UK would your average LD be more than 50 miles from water, gas or a mechanic)

 

Its understandable that people from the UK would be so loyal to them and the access to cheap parts (hey just as well, right?), and be willing to look past there many faults and put more time into keeping them working, but the rest of the world has moved on to better made, reliable, practical, economical, lower maintenance, cheaper vehicles.

 

If the LD were good they would sell greatly worldwide

 

If the japanese were not good they wouldnt sell world wide

 

The numbers have it. The world wide market for landrovers was theres to loose from the 60's onwards, and they did, and continue to do so to superior machines made by many other companies. The sad story of the british motor industry continued.

Well you anti landrover boys can say and buy what you like but you cant take away the fact that land rover have produced more 4x4`s than any other single manufacturer of which 75% are still on the road. So how bad and unpopular can they really be , outdated yes but POS definitely not. Now show me some 1940`s jap 4x4`s that are still in daily use that you can still buy all the parts you need to keep it going. :001_smile: I wont hold my breath for an answer.

It's all about opinions. If everyone selected everything on the same criteria we would all be driving the same thing, we would all use the same chainsaw, we would all eat the same food, bought from the same shop, drink the same booze from the same pub and like the same Rolf Harris picture.

But, 'fank God, Arry' we don't. The landy lovers (like me) will ignore the faults and expound the good points (well... good point). It's nothing to do with facts, I love my landy, I've never had a Jap Macho machine and may never.

 

Next thing you know there will be a dispute over which chipper is best

There are lemons in all makes

My first new landy was a complete pile and I got rid after 6 months, left them alone for a long time but the last 2 have been superb trucks, more comfort would be nice though.

But then I have also had a new hilux that needed a new transfer box after 2 weeks, then an IP at 70K

A new ranger that spent nearly 6 weeks at the dealers with various faults

A fourtrak that shredded it's gearbox at 60k

and another new ranger that has left us by the side of the road 3 times due to electrical faults

If the landcruiser pickups were available direct here I would imagine I could probably see me using those instead, that said landy parts a easy to get and decently priced unlike when I ran the toyota's

HI KEITH/BOB your so right re lemons i had a new TD5 06 xs90 LAST ONES MADE after 6 weeks i had it with it gear box was getting very hot when towing a twin axle caravan so i let them have it back 900miles on it they thanks jon :thumbup:

agree with you thats definately cool.

 

there are a good few old LJ's and 40 series Land Cruisers knocking about (not so many in UK but still plenty.) and yes there not 1940's, but your know there aren't loads of 1940's vehicles around really are there?

 

Not all jap 4x4's are ponsy either my ride is a 1988 MK2 Hilux bit like that one off Top Gear. Works hard for me everyday, costs maybe £400 a year on parts and labour and has done 310,000 miles. whack for towing big loads ( slow/illegal.). chassis is good.

 

good to hear some reliale land rover stories - a few folk i know seem to have to fix theirs all the time - which has put me off them. might reconsider when (if) this one eventually gives up on me
