Anyone had much joy/swearing with non genuine parts? particulaly carbs? £34 or £113 is y choice so it'd need to be a good bit better.

just got cheapo one for a ms170 carver which seems fine but hasn't had the test of time.

reckon it's got to be worth a shot?

I readily admit to using some of the chinese copy carbs on home owner type saws like the 170 etc.

I use the same few suppliers and never had 1 problem with them and only pay about £15 each. I find it hard to justify anyone wanting to buy a new oe carb from the dealer for something like an ms170 which is prob 1/2 or 1/3 the price of a new saw.

yeah if i wait 7-15 days its £17! or £107 from dealer! on an ms170 i thought it was worth a pop and thought it would be nice to be able to adjust it myself. i haven't used it much since putting the new carb on though.....you used them a fair bit with no probs eh?

I think it may be the durability that will be the downfall of these cheap carbs from the 'knock off' producers. Cheaper grade alloy bodies and steel butterfly shafts, accompanied by less stringent manufacturing tolerances may well lead to early wear, allowing air ingress to upset mixture (if indeed they are properly tuneable in the first place)

But, as has been mentioned, they are worth a try on a low value machine where a genuine carb would cost more than the machine is worth, just do not expect too much.

I would hesitate to fit one to a high value, mainline, working machine though.

Many of the cheap chinese saws and brushcutters on the market sport these cheap carbs, and can be virtually impossible to tune from new. Many are being returned to the sellers and are simply chucked in the skip.

The Mitox range of saws though, although built in China, are specified by the importer, Rochfords, to be equipped with a genuine Walbro carb. This increases the price of the saw a little, but is obviously seen by Rochfords to be important. Hence there are very few carb issues on these saws.

The problem will be that when the new aftermarket carb is fitted, if the symptom is still there, is it something else or an issue with the part:confused1:

I did a 372XP recently and the carb settings which should be 1 & 1 ended up being 1/2 and 1 1/2 - a less experienced guy would have not been able to tune it in. Saying that, the saw did run OK and was sporting an aftermarket coil as well!
