A question to the chainsaw experts

I'm not counting my chicks till they hatch but I may have got a good deal on a saw on the bay last night. Long story short...It runs but is in need of a tune. Now I believe it may have been stood for a while and my question is this. Will leaving a saw to stand for a while damage any of the internals? Just wondering weather to do my usual strip down and clean and get it tuned or weather to take it to my dealer and get them to take it apart and re build just to check everything is okay?

'It runs but is in need of a tune' is eBay slang for 'bugger all compression left but it will start and run so long as you hold the throttle open'...

If compression is good and it has been stood then the carb probably wants a clean, maybe a rebuild kit if bad.

Dealer 'tune' will wipe out any saving from a second hand saw with no guarantee it will be any cop afterwards.

.

Are you a 'glass half empty' kind of guy?

It may not need tuning at all, DIY'ers don't worry too much about the simple things - like cleaning air filters, plugs etc.....

Then again it may be as you say:thumbdown:

I'd clean it up and try before making any further decisions.

Can't see it being a diy'er as it's a 576xpg but I know what your saying, just didn't want to go starting up and using it to find I was just destroying the engine that's all, to be honest I think it'll be fine

I am told that fuel in the pipes if left standing, and if it has lots of ethanol init like all supermarket petrol now has, can dessicate the rubber parts like the fuel line or the diaphragms.

Ahh okay, thanks for that info, I shall give all that a good check over then. As long as it all checks out well i couldn't be a happier man due to the price :)

Chuck any fuel that was in it away and make fresh before you attempt anything . Is it an Auto tune or the early non A/T ?

I was intending on that but thank you for mentioning it. Its the earlier non auto tune I believe as it's an 09 saw but from the look of it it hasn't done a lot, my 2012 550xp looks worse and I take very good care of my saws! Am considering a mm but can't find much about the best way to do it to this saw
