Chip box airflow.

Do you find that you can fill the whole box?or at least improve capacity? I think we probably lose about a cubic meter in volume with the air flow blowing the chip back out....

We don't fill the whole back as it would be way overloaded. But I think you could, you do get dust over every thing but a leaf blower soon sorts that.

We use a mesh top on a 3.5 t canter and I works well. We often chip into to it with a Jensen 340 and that has a fair velocity on chip.

 

 

What mesh size do you use?

Distance from spout to bed is too far, the velocity of the chip is slow, no stress makes it dribble.

Often the spout height is lower than the height of the front of the box so is always aimed up the way, so causes ricochete.

Get a Mog and pto chipper, a non spill unit.

Loads of power and draft behind the chip, spout is high and very close to the chip box, mine is actually just inside the box and the opening to the whole box is about 12"x8", so not much room for it too bounce back even when getting full.

 

 

Edit, apologies I have just read again and you haven't mentioned your set up, I have presumed it's a tipper and tow behind!

Hi Steve ,

We've got a mog and pto green mech but we had to open up the hole in the box to accommodate the chipper....

(Previous owner had a different chipper with a more direct feed in.)

The velocity out of the chipper is immense..... It blows (forces) dust and chips out of even the tiniest gap in the box!

In the fullness of time we will get a box made... This one is a bit rotten underneath but still has some life left.

do ya get any grief from plod for not having a light board and a number plate mounted on the back of the chipper ? nice setup you have.

Thanks for your comments and advice guys As far as I know light board is not a legal requirement (told by green mech). But is probably a good idea! No hassle from plod yet!!

Really hate to take a disc cutter to the new chipper but if it helps ......

Take that 1 off, put it in a shed and make up a new 1!

Or cut it and put it in a big hinge so you can still blast to the side or into trailers.
