can you assess your own equipment when you've got assessor quali's?

I dont think you can assess anything you purchase/use, if you are an employee of a company I think you can inspect the company gear providing you are not involved with the purchasing.

If you are a one man band you could probably find another loler assessor and check each others gear?

It would be an odd thing to be qualified to inspect others climbing/rigging equipment but not your own.

I think its only if you have a part in the purchasing process, if you inspect your own and a piece of kit need replacing you may pass it due to financial reasons - I know as a climber you wouldnt risk your life but there may be people out htere who pass stuff like lowering equipment to save themselves a few quid!

You can loler your own equipment its just recommended that you use an in dependant inspector, well thats how I read it in AIS 30

"The risks in arboriculture which arise through failure in

lifting equipment for lifting people justify independent

and impartial thorough examination. In practice this

probably means somebody external to your business.

Your insurance company may require you to use an

independent examining engineer. Your supplier or the

manufacturer may also be able to suggest suitable

people or organisations."

and if you want something better than the NPTC then try NARC in Kendal, much better course, cheaper and covers more than just Arboricultural equipment, i have seen several guys go on the NPTC course and be failed on the stupidist things possible, i.e. new england rope with a bulge approx foot from whipped eye, he failed it becuase he couldnt determine what the issue with the bulge was, they then failed his assessment for been over cautious.
