Think its meant to burn ok when it actually dries, it just takes a bloody long time to dry tho and almost starts to rot before that happens.

Its not something ive a great supply of but ive seen some around the woods and they seem to grow so straight etc its a shame they haven't much use.

Until they uproot/rot or come into a clearance area I cant/don't state claim but to be fair out of the 9 mature oaks and various beech and ash that have uprooted so far this year not ones been a turkey.

Sorry to disappoint you but it's not good firewood either. I have heard that it was imported for shipbuilding after the Armada due to that very property but I don't know how true that is.

not 100% sure but i believe it was brought over here after the armada because we discovered that our cannon balls were not penetrating their ships which were made or clad in the stuff.

however, our fabulous plan backfired as once it was grown over here it did not have the same properties as the rock hard oak grown in a spanish climate and we were left with the turkeys we have today.

wood will burn and i'd be happy with it on my fire but it's good when quarter sawn for decorative furniture for the rays.

It is OK for turning , this bit is spalted and has warped to nice effect ( I think so anyway ! ) as some one else said it is OK for interior joinery/ floorboards and if big ,as they often are will present nice quarter sawn boards . There are some utter monsters down this way and have taken a few down over the years ...but... never managed to sell any other than for firewood though !!
