In April he will come; in May he sings all day; in June he alters his tune; in July he flies away.

 

I remember my mum reciting that to me. This month you'll start to hear a bubbling sound he makes. Once you've heard it you'll recognise it. Sad that as a kid the cuckoo was everywhere and now he's disappearing fast.

probably about a month since i first heard the cuckoo here in Ross shire, i wondered then if it`s the same bird returning year after year, although i hear many of them, there`s one in a wood that i walk the dog through that calls from exactly the same place every spring, but iv`e never managed to catch sight of it, it`s a bit of a thicket, could it be the same bird ? how long do they live?? cheers

Not herd one this year live droitwich in the midlands. Have had major canel work and clearing over last ten years or so lost nearly all reed margins. Miss the sound of it.funny how a sound takes you back in time. Shame things have to change.

Heard 6 yesterday and the piece de resistancé yesterday was a colleague and i saw 3 of them flying about. 2 males and a female.

Sounds like you cornered the market in cuckoo's. You must be in prime location for there food source. You very lucky.

I'm not a birder but my desert island discs would include three sounds

 

Skylarks - don't get them here, and the pure sound of my youth,

English partridge going to bed at nght, not heard them for years
