Stops the engine revs from dropping so usually it will stop the feed rollers from feeding ,giving the engine a chance to pick up speed .... If it's not fitted it will pull in a piece of timber until the revs drop so low the engine stalls.

The no stress device is better called a speed control device.

 

It monitors the speed of the flywheel, often with a dedicated monitoring device or some monitor the electrical out put from the alternator.

 

When the flywheel speed drops below a set value the device triggers a hydraulic solenoid valve that stops the feed rollers. This takes the load off the engine and allows the flywheel speed to pick up again.

 

Once the flywheel speed increases above the specified value the device resets the hydraulics to normal function
