Yes a good strong mower, when I have used it it would take a lot to slow it down

The skirt does serve a function, in that it acts as a secondline defence in stopping stones being thrown forwards, so maybe best to just plate it over. Simply done.

As for sharpening, yes tickle it up with a grinder. Get an even angle of around 30 degrees and grind both sides evenly to preserve balance.

When the ground edge has reached 13mm in from its original line the blade should be replaced.

If the wings are worn at all sharp then the blade should also be replaced.

Balance the blade before refitting

Just replaced my blade on the same mower, could not work out why it would not pick up grass only mulch. Comparing with a new blade I had an inch each end missing and the turned up bit on the end of the blade was also gone. New blade and it works better than ever before.

Balance the blade ?, it simply bolts on with one bolt, how would you go about balancing it?, mine was real chamber of horrors stuff yet it cut grass.

Your old blade would have been very out of balance, the new one would be perfect.

But just suppose you hit a lump of metal in the grass and take a chunk off the blade on one side. When you sharpen it you must take the same off each side to maintain balance.

You can balance reasonably accurately by hanging the blade horizontally over a thin bar clamped in a vise. The heavy side will drop, so grind a bit more off until it stays level.

When the edge has receded 10mm from the original line it needs replacing.
