My latest idea is get it all set up with pump and engine at back. Then work out how much water you need at back to get nose weight right. Buy appropriate water tank and mount underneath at back. If your carrying alot or weight drop the water. When empty fill it again. Any thoughts?

That's looks pretty identical to mine, nose weight 250 overall 1100?

Damn you're close. 275ish /1180.

I thought about some ballast. But prefer the idea of moving the weight back when empty, so slide the crane back but don't know how you'd attach it... Don't like the idea of having the engine/tank at the back, it's nice to have the length and overhang the rear.

Another question if you don't mind, would there be a simple way to put a scale on either the crane or the trailer so I knew how loaded I am? Thanks

Haha another thing I've thought the same! I'd say experience would be best the weighing things look expensive.

This log was a touch under 3foot, that's a 14 foot bed(12 foot after the crane) so 14 foot long log. I make that 1.5ton ish at 1000kg per m3. It's ash not sure how far off I am! Crane struggles with that, had to do one end the the other. That's a Honda 5.5 I think ImageUploadedByArbtalk1398895798.888538.jpg.1f5a1125a8cec0dd702092566d11541a.jpg

Looks a good set up same trailer as mine I reckon. Think I'll have to move my crane onto bed but will wait until I have power pack and work it out from there. If you don't mind me asking, what did you pay for the trailer set up.?

I have been considering a hiab trailer, but the nose weight issue concerns me. The couplings tend to be rated at 100kg nose weight so 275 is almost 3 times over surely its likely to fail. The only practical solution I can see is mid mount a folding model right over the axels and then put tank and pump at the front. possibly a tri axel might be better with the crane on the draw bar and travel empty with it extended out over the back
