How to mod exhausts?

The 'optimum size' has more to do with noise in regards to gain. In most chainsaws, you can make huge holes in the muffler and still see gains. However, huge holes often mean huge noise. So when they usually talk size, it's more about balance than ultimate gains.

 

Thats about right Wes - Stubbys one shook my fillings out:lol: and had a complaint from a fella down the road:001_rolleyes::lol:

80-90% of the exhaust port area. Bigger than that gain is minimal but noise does become a factor.

That said some smaller saws can actually be louder than some larger saws.

 

A single 1" pipe is ideal on the likes of 372xp's etc as its 85% of port size to give a rough idea.
