New ideas with rotten wood

Not the usual piece from me but I have been experimenting with soft wood and casting it in resin.This was a piece of Elm with a hole of rot running through it,used the wet rot hardener to stabilise the wood

That nice what resin did you use?

First try was Polyester second was Polyurethene and this one was epoxy

Polyester shrinks and doesn't adhere to the wood.Polyurethane reacts with any moisture in the wood and Epoxy works well but costs a fortune

I like that slack. Do you apply the resin then turn it out?

The wood is encased in the epoxy resin and put in a pressure chamber,than when it's dry I turn it on the lathe.The Epoxy turns beautifully

The pressure chamber is just to make sure there are no air pockets and bubbles
