I'm seriously fed up with tape measures breaking or the numbers wearing off after a few weeks.

Can anyone recommend one that will last? Ideally 8 metres and needs to be able to put up with a bit of dirt.

A decent Stanley should last a good while bob. £10-15 for a half decent one, unless you're going to cover it in cement, in that case nothing will last.

I had been thinking about this today. Half the time I can't find the damned things.

I keep buying the 99p 3 metre jobbies but they're not really long enough a lot of the time.

I even went out and bought a quite pricey 8m tape measure and bent it within days.

My conclusion was to buy the cheapest tape you can find that matches an acceptable quality. if it breaks/wears out just buy another. Expensive tapes are not worth the money imo.

Some pretty good deals on ebay if you search 8m tape measure.

I guess it depends how important it is to get the measurement right, personally I like a decent quality one, and they need looking after too, if it's covered in crap, wash it and dry it, even give it a slosh of wd40 now and again, just my opinion of course!!
