Husqvarna and Stihl HP Ultra

Spoke with the Stihl people today, well ,Gary to be precise.

He reckons the JASO and ISO ratings are smoke ,carbon and that sort of thing and not lubrication.

I had a quick look on the web,and Sthil insist that HP Ultra gives the best lubrication under the most demanding conditions, compared to their other oils.

Therefore I am going to use it in my 560 at 50:1.

It has done my 441 C-M and 261 C-M no harm yet!

My 251 ran well on it until I turned it into a 560.

Might just do that.It would be the easiest solution and makes sense if I break it ,for warranty issues.

If you want be sure on warranty with oil just use Aspen2.

Approved by Stihl and used by and recommend by Husqvarna.

No question on quality of oil mix ratio or fuel quality.

The oil used is: JASO FD/ISO Global EGD

Did you know if you buy in bulk your dealer may give you discount?

Ask your local dealer and see what deal they can do on bulk orders.

I understand the difference per litre to pump fuels but one written off saw plus the down time and this is cost difference is gone and you would still be working running on Aspen.

Actually the other way round Mark

HP Ultra, apparently their finest oil, is only FB rated.

whereas

HP Super, a cheaper oil is rated FD

Both are fully synthetic

Standard HP is mineral oil based and also FB

Now, I really do not get it, we are told time and time again that the highest FD ratings are the best, yet Stihl's best is only FB.

Many cheaper oils from other brands are much higher spec, but not all are good oils.

I suspect that the F ratings are only a small part of the story, but it is a bit of a minefield and from experience we know that some so called highly spec'd oils offer little engine protection.

Are they just pushing it because of its biodegradable properties and keeping the greens happy do you think? I think you are right the super is a better oil looking at the specs but semi synthetic I thought?

Regarding jaso fd it's reported that it outperforms jaso fb in all aspects not just smoke and ash.  Jaso fb is what's in hp ultra and actually the hp super is lower in ash as well. Why are stihl saying the ultra is better? I've emailed stihl GB and I haven't got an answer. I can see from online research the american hp ultra differs from the european type.Does any one want to throw some light or thoughts on it??
