Chain brake or break ?

I call it the chain brake as it stops the chain from going round but everyone on here calls it the chain break but the only thing I can find about the chain breaking is the catcher.

Chain BRAKE is correct, as in a device to stop motion (kinda), see page 7 of http://www.hse.gov.uk/pubns/indg317.pdf for confirmation.

I have always correctly called it a brake as that is what it does - same as the brakes on your car!

 

The break is a lunch break or a break in the weather, your leg etc

On my ms200s it's a break because thats what it does every few weeks!

 

It does act as a brake for the chain in between replacements so I don't care how people spell it. They did used to last ages but I guess Stihl have new suppliers allowing them to compromise durability. Still, like all of us I suppose they are in it to maximise profit.

I don't think it's a grammatical error just confusion over spelling of two words with similar sound. Never having broken a chain I was unsure if the chain breaking operated the brake.
