Do you think this will survive?

Need some advice.

 

Been called out to clear a fallen tree but on arrival find some of it still standing. The owners now live abroad and have left it to me to do what I think best. I am not an arborist just a chap with a saw so need some guidance on this one. They would like something to be kept if possible as they planted it themselves. Apparently it's a monterey pine and to the untrained eye there is no evidence of decay. It looks small in the picture but is probably 25+ meters high. The standing stem is about 60 cm diameter but oval.

Based on pics i would remove it. Too many possible future problems

Agree fell, as looks severely weakend at base, with a lot of reduced shelter leverage above.

It will survive but won't stay upright for too long.

also due to the break the top canopy is now very poor and will probably not correct itself fast enough to make the base any more stable. - tis a shame. but as just a cutter myself i would be removing it.

I am not surprised by your thoughts. I was thinking this was probably the case but hoping it wasn't.

If there's no surrounding targets of high value I 'd suggest leaving it. If it fails at a later date there's no great loss.
