I need a new set of spanners and pliers for doing maintenance on saws, mowers etc etc. And was just wandering what the decent makes are nowadays? I mean mid price range type stuff, not snap-on prices! Or what people are using at the moment and think it is good quality/value for money.

teng? I know they used to be cheaper than snap-on, to be honest my cheepo £15 set of spanners from a tool market, have done me well and the only one iv'e broken was as a result of doing something I shouldn't

I have bacho 1/4, 3/8and half inch drive socket sets, very good stuff and can be very well priced when on offer.

Another vote for Bacho. 3/8" 1/2" spanners etc. Aldi ratchet spanners are pretty good too.

Record make decent hand tools. Ive got a boxful of my grandads old record bits n bobs and I expect to be passing them down at some too.

I have bacho 1/4, 3/8and half inch drive socket sets, very good stuff and can be very well priced when on offer.

 

I bought a Bahco set with 1/4" and 1/2" drive plus combination and swivel spanners (called S87+7) on ebay for £50 + p&p, best bargain ever as they are at least £120. I got them a couple of years ago and they are great tools, proper 6 point sockets that really grip. I also have a Kamasa set that has lasted well for a cheap set but they are my scrapyard and beater spanners.

Bahco are good, so are Beta. For the money halfords "Professional" stuff aint too bad!

If you get them on offer they're not too bad IMO i brought a set of ratcheting spanners sizes 8mm to 19mm i think for £40 when they were on offer.
