Which Tirfor Winch?

I can't be more specific than that I'm afraid!!!!

I'm a one man band with access to a very good level of subbies, who like me have the standard gear for work and use the network for access to more specialized and expensive gear when needed.

I've been asked to looked at several jobs this week where a winch is going to be must and will be a good investment.

Looking at the Tirfor range on HB I'm unsure how much "grunt" to go for and whilst I don't mind paying money for good gear, I don't see me needing the biggest load capacity on the shelf.

Any smaller outfits that have been here before and can advise?

Feedback much appreciated, done a search and nothing conclusive found.

Cheers

Russ

I have a T516 which has never let me down. It is rated 1600kg lift but can be doubled up with a snatch block.

It is a bit overkill for assisted felling so I have an 800kg ACE Tirfor clone with a 30m rope for this.

I cant imagine needing the 3200kg Tirfor unless I was trying to debog a tractor or something!

I have 5-ton and 3-ton Griphoists: I've used the smaller one twice, once to try a large shrub stump and within seconds snapped a shear pin!

I know it sounds a bit agricultural but I now live by the mantra that a big winch can do small work but a small winch is harder pushed to perform big work; I use the big 'un for everything and just live with the weight of the body.
