Drying birch

I have read on here that birch rots very easily. I am just wondering how easily. I am processing freshly cut silver birch straight into IBCs which will have lids soon but not sure if it will rot from any wind driven rain that gets on the sides or if it will be OK.

What do you recon

If you store it with good airflow and a dry top it will be fine. I've cut about 8 tonnes this year, stacked in various places. The stuff stacked in the wood is rotting a bit. That stacked in the woodstore is great. The stuff stacked under a tree but not in the wood has rotted just a little. So yes it likes to rot but if stored properly is great firewood.

I think that once split it will last considerably longer that when left in the round - because the bark retains moisture and the split faces can let the moisture out.

Agree. Split, off ground, on pallets. plenty of wind, sun and covered. Birch is good burner. Great flames. Sit watching it all night.

If left on ground will rot quicker than most wood.
