We've got one of the biggest bobcats and it's a powerful machine. We had a mature alder fall across the road the other day. Bobby dragged it off like a twig. BUT. I would go for a tracked one in future. Wheeled skid steers are hopeless on wet ground. I've been watching the polish boys putting in a solar park near me and they use tracked bobbies and they go anywhere.

Have you tried it with tracks that fit over the wheels?

if you have the means to carry a larger machine articulated is the way to go.less ground damage and more payload

a BMG branch manager grapple is a great tool when paired with a articulated or skid steer loader as well

the little vermeer ride on track skiders are the nuts! one on site with just the log grab can get tonnes done. obviously site dependant

In the 10 years we've been in business we've used one once.. and that was at least 7 years ago. For that job it was great as it was a long way to the road down a very narrow path, but it made right mess. Wouldn't want to use one on a tidy garden.

You can pay quite a few days of lads humping logs for the cost of one and lads can rake go up steps and do all sorts of other things:001_smile:. If you "need" it round the yard or can use it for other things then it might be worth it.

That's exactly the reason I can't buy one. I work in urban Surrey where all the lawns are finely manicured and the steps are Indian sand stone.

If I had the need for one most days, like a chainsaw, I'd buy one tomorrow without hesitation. Sadly, I just can't create enough excuses to buy one.

Doesn't mean these threads don't make me slightly ill with envy though!

I had a big Beech to dismantle. Brush was chipped on site but the logs had to go up hill for 100m, so I hired an Avant 635.

WHAT AN AWESOME TOOL!

If I needed one twice a week I'd buy one tomorrow.
