Help with Petrol/Hydraulic Logsplitter

pump is way too big for the engine, max size of pump for 8hp engine running @ 2500 rpm to give 150 bar pressure is 8cc

I have a log splitter driven by a B&S 5Hp petrol engine , it was made by ABT products in Ross on Wye , I have used it for over 30 years and has been superb so as has been said, correct design is the key!

I have had a chance to take a look at my splitter and what I noticed is that the hoses from the control valve to the cylinder return end and to the tank return has a much bigger bore than the pressure end hose. I guess this allows the oil in the dead end of the cylinder to get back to the tank easier meaning the most of the pressure is used for splitting and not returning oil to the tank.

sod all to do with it your pumps is too big or your engines too small

I think Breeze and Mechtrev are onto it, luckily pumps arent that dear, you could fit the right size and have yourself a good splitter

I have spoken to the guy and unless someone put the valve on backwards you are correct.

Just wanted to say thank you all for your contributions. The bloke who made it was kind enough to come and fix it. It was the pump - too big. A smaller one from flowfit has done the job. Probably not giving us the tonnage we wanted but at least its working fine!
