Leaf blower cuts out after 10 mins of use.

Hello good folk of arbtalk!

 

I have a problem with my Makita napsack blower, it starts fine and runs well for about 5-10 minutes and then the revs won't pick up and it dies.

 

Its a few years old and I only got it a few months back so don't know its history, but I did fit a new spark plug in the hope it would fix it:001_rolleyes:

 

It has fresh fuel (2 stroke) in it so I have eliminated that issue.

 

Can anyone help with a remedy please?

As soon as it dies, pull the plug and see if you still have a spark. Could be the coil breaking down once its got warm.

Wash the Air Filter usually does the trick for me. Regards Derek.

Weird things ignition coils, nephew had a moped that would run for so long then only run on tickover so I obviously thought it was fuel related and cleaned the carb out three times with no improvement till I fitted the coil from another just as a last resort and found it cured it permanently. I also thought it might be air locking due to tank vent but it did it with the cap off as well.

I was going to suggest blocked tank vent as well . Tried that ?

Tried the fuel lines etc, washed the air filter, looks like its the coil.

 

So had a look online and a replacement is £112! Can't belive it, already purchased a flexi pipe and harness for it, on top of 120 euros I paid for it. Gutted:thumbdown:

 

Will have to pick up a new stihl when I'm next in the uk.

Is it an ex-council machine?

If so, it's probably just not used to working for more than 10 minutes at a time?

You can get a drop in compression when an engine gets hot, if it starts at a low 130psi, when it is warm, it can drop to 115psi and stop it re-starting hot.

 

Other than that it may be a tank vent, fuel issue or ignition coil - try closing the gap between the coil and the flywheel - had a MS460 that would start and die when hot - found the gap too large.

 

It isn't always the end of the road and don't give up easily on anything:thumbup:
