Hi Gardenkit,

I have a Honda HR1950 (DOM1992), i purchased it 2nd hand and it all looked good, starts on the first pull every time.

One problem that has emerged is that when i let go of the self propel bar it carries on powering forward dragging me off in to the flower beds

To make sure it stops when requested i have to let go of self propel bar and lift the rear of the mower up taking the weight off the roller - to which it stops on the button. - it has resulted in me breaking the handle which i now have to weld up

Any ideas on what it might be?

Thanks

Daniel

my honda (not the same model tho.)used to do that and there was a spring loose or missing underneath by the back wheels, sorry bit vague as it was a few years back, but could be worth a look as its an annoying fault!

Hi,

I used to repair a lot of these when I was in the workshop.

I would check the drive cable is in good order and allows the free movement of the inner cable. Check the arm on the gearbox is not cracked or jammed and the spring in fitted correctly.

If all the above is ok the solution is new dog and gear in the gearbox which will require a full strip down and end up being quite expensive.

These mowers are very good quality and the engines are amazing so might be worth doing the overall condition of the machine is good.

Are Polymer Mower Decks any good?

I'm considering getting a polymer decked Viking MB448T as a relatively cheap and lightweight replacement for my trusty steel decked MB248T that I use on my domestic mowing jobs and consigning it as a backup machine. I'm wondering though if the polymer deck will be really as robust as the steel one on the 248?

I do like the look of the Stiga Twinclip 50 as a more robust alternative and perhaps using the old 248 on the smaller gardens but I need to convince myself of the price and weight premium.
