Easier to get a nice tight eye.

Why do you want a tight eye?

My new rope just arrived and the eye is so tight I can barely force a carabina through it.

Doesn't suit how I climb at all.

Holds the Biner nice and tight, helps keep it aligned.

Easy to enough to order a rope with a bigger eye if you prefer.

I'm not really seeing why I would need to do that.

Well yes, I'll know that for next time, but it had never occurred to me that anyone might want a loop that small.

Meanwhile I need to decide whether to send the rope back or try it out. I'm hoping someone will convince me what a wonderful idea it is and why I'd be so much better with this one rather than what I am used to.

Is not looking promising so far... :(

The advantage of the tight eye is that it keeps the biner (or what have you) better aligned and reduces the chance of side loading.

But the disadvantage is that you cannot unclip and reclip it.

What biner are you using?

I have a selection. None look like they'll go through without difficulty.

Well, if you intend to keep it use a small biner with a smooth nose like a DMM sentinel, and the eye will slacken a little with use. No one would supply a eye so tight you couldn't get one of them through.

If you really don't get on with it you can always get it respliced as long as it's clean.

Of course you can.
