Aquired Stihl 056 and Husqvarna 242 Chainsaw

Hello there

I've been a long time reader, but with nothing much to add in experience I've been a lurker not a poster!

I was on the lookout for a chainsaw, as the wife has a forest that her work own and has a load of fallen trees that are going begging, and then they've also stated we can take a few down every year for the multi fuel.

On looking at buying a decent chainsaw, I've ended up with 2 x Stihl 056 and Husqvarna 242 Chainsaw from Ebay job lot. Not picking them up until tomorrow, but paid a grand sum of £200 for them, and they're still in use currenlty.

Would anyone have any recommendation of anyone within a decent distance of Oswestry or Chester that might be best to give them the once over and then service/refurbish them? I've Morgans of Oswestry as the main contender so far.

Probably looking at selling two of them, and from what I've read it will be the 242 that will be kept, but if I can make my outlay back I might be tempted to keep a couple. :001_tongue:

Looks like I missed out by not being on Ebay for the last two months. For a first timer (I'm assuming) you didn't do bad there did you! 2 x 056 and a 242 screamer. For £200, running?!? There is a certain American site, we all know, were you would be awarded a 'you suck' award on that basis alone.

I would always recommend having two saws even if it's just to cut out the one saw that you got stuck in a cut. 056 would be better in big stuff if you have any to cut, but the 242 is definitely a keeper if you are going to use it.

A good 056 (put on the biggest bar you've got one it) sold on ebay will easily make you back the £200 outlay.

Reasonable distance from Chester would be Duttons Stihl dealers at Daresbury for me.

The stihl parts are still very easy to obtain, as are the husky parts. I would keep an 056 and the 242 personally, although if I were you, I'd sell the 242 to me ;)
