Lathe woes!

This is a real long shot but I've just broken the tool rest holder on my coronet major lathe and wondered if anybody might have one tucked away in a back corner that they might want to sell.

Failing that would a good welder be able to sort it, its cast so worried about other fractures which can't be seen yet.

Pictures attached.

Thanks

Bob

I have an extra tool rest holder from my mates lathe possibly. It was a Record CL1 so it should fit ok. Its a while since I have seen it so I will have a hunt for it in the workshop tomorrow. Failing that I would put a wanted ad on one of the woodworking forums or contact record. It would be far cheaper than welding it. Will let you know tomorrow night.

Thanks Mike

Just had a look at a few images of the CL1 and it looks like it might just fit, will look out for your post tomorrow.

For a minute I thought you were going to say you had one!

Got the lathe from George behind the MESS, going to blame him for weakening it. :D

Half an hour in a welders shop will fix that. Your local Ag supplies will have the 'black' rods. Failing that ebay;Cast Iron Repair Rods 3.2mm x 5 Rods arc welding | eBay

Looking at the break you'd be wise to add a wider base plate to spread the downwards forces generated.

Not sure my welding is quite up to that. You're probably right about it needing more support as I inherited 2 spares with the lathe, both of them broken!

If needs must I can probably send it off to get it repaired, not sure we have a decent welder on the island.
