lathe troubles

hi all just wanted to know if this has happened to anyone else.

 

 

on the 9th of january my jet 3520b headstock was colected and sent off to have it's bearings replaced.

 

took a while and whinging about it finally got it delivered this morning and thought yippee i can finally get on with some work as i've been bored out of my brains for the last fortnight.

 

this is what i saw when i opened the box.

three bolts hold the fan casing on and one of them has been sheared by the impact (how much force does that take?) and is still in the hole.

 

the fan is bent and can not fully rotate as it fouls on a bolt.

 

the main shaft has a new facet on it which makes me thing it was dropped but there's no busted box.

 

i unbent the fan a tried to start it but nothing happened?

 

i'm trying to get this sorted with axminster tools. i want them to replace it, wish me luck

I do wish you luck but you should not need it . It is clearly negligent . I would not try to straiten / fix anything . let them see it as it is .

i am going to rebend the fan back to it's knackered position before i send it back.

true john, i'll have to figure out how to use it first.

I ll put some extra bubble wrap on it!! Totally drained of all fluids and I ran the carb dry so it might take a good few pulls to fire her up

That's not good mate, from what I've read Axminster are good at sorting this sort of thing.

under sale of goods act 1979 its dodgy goods ask them for a new motor as your one has been damaged. should replace with a new one.
