How do you guys measure the hole depth? I've got a BT spade with a 2 foot 6 inch mark on it and it has made digging holes so much easier, I used to just guess and it was always a right pain having to dig.

Dig your hole till you think it is deep enough.. then dig some more because you always have to go deeper..:001_tongue:

We set the first post and kick board then work from there, always 2 foot under ground unless we hang a gate off of it then 6" deeper. as said use a length of timber the size of the post your using as a template then you know exactly where you are with levels otherwise them posts get heavy lifting them in and out the ground all day!

True. I have done hundreds of fences and each one is different. Soil soft or rocky, up hill or down, fence panels to long or short. You just make it work. I prefer concrete posts as it makes for a solid job, a good deep hole if poss and plenty of mix in with a few big rocks in the bottom to hold the post solid. If to long then chop off with disc cutter if u can't dig deeper. Everbody has there own way of doing them you are best finding a way you like and trying that.
