what does a firewood sale cost you in timber?

Been messing around with some prices and budgets for next year today, and been ultering prices and potential profit to compensate for cord wood to keep rising. My loads (I have 3 different cubic metre sizes) currently cost me 20% of the sale in timber. I dont think thats too bad, obviously the more cheaper timber I can source the better but if im honest if the % was to be much more (say 30%) I dont think id keep pushing the firewood game.

Just intrigued what others are working out the timber per load costs are. Makes me wonder how/why some guys are cheaper then me and source all there timber in the cord at a premium.

There either cheaper because it's free wood ie tree surgeons doing it on the side or there buying in a 1000t and need it to go quick so sell below market value. The cost of timber in my load is 25%. Unless I can find a bigger yard I'll be packing it in need to be turning a lot of timber over to make a good living.

Plus it looks like I am building a house for the boy on my current yard

So if for sake of argument, you're selling chopped, seasoned firewood for £100/m3, you wouldn't want to pay more than £25/m3 for chordwood in your yard. ie about £75/tonne for chordwood?

It cost 50£ to 55£ to get cord in the yard 90% ash so I am getting 2m3 to a tonne if I had to pay 75£ I would not bother matter a fact if it hits 60 I'll be giving it up. If you payed 75 for beach you would only get 1.3 m3 to a tonne waste of time

Is it possible to get 3m3 sawn/split firewood out of 1 ton hardwood?

2.2 to 2.5 cube to a ton

Quote me if I'm wrong

Weighed my £200 load of green Oak cut at 8-10 inch at 1.2 tons which is 2.7 cube

So £55 a ton leaves £65 ish of cord to make £200 of logs

So in a lorry load roughly £4000 delivered

Mark up is 2 thirds
