I'm a freelance climber and work a lot of the uk mainly lincolnshire and surrounding counties.. When working to spec reductions there are no just a bit mores!!! There are no can I just have six more feet out the top... It's done to spec and that's that!!!

I've worked for and been asked to do round overs like yours many times before and my simple reply is... "Sorry but think you've got the wrong climber for this job!!" I've walked away from a few sites and contractors and will stick by my word when I say "I have standards!!!"

To say there's more work in a few years time is because of the way you did the tree is cowboyish unprofessional and down right insulting to the forum IMHO!!

90% of domestic reductions are a waste of time (and crown thins are highly detrimental) all they do is act as a placebo for the client. Best not to get worked up about cowboy work as you put it, cowboy work has been about for longer than Shigo standards.

Thanks for all the advice everyone even if it did seem harsh I do understand what you were all getting at. Next reduction I do I'll follow all your advice and see how it turns out. And cheers for the links ill have a good look.

Hi Ben, if the tree was indeed to big for its position and touching the two property's, may I suggest selective pruning ie only removing branches that are becoming a nuisance, less is most definitely the best! Leave all those fancy reductions alone even if they are cuts made back to growth points.

One company ask me to do a reduction I do as hard as I can with out murdering the tree he always says take more of which would end up a topped Tree so I ignore him do my own thing customers prefer to see a proper job. Bosses justification is the respond well. Water sprouts are not a good response at all.
