Modifying a ms201t

I read about drilling the exhaust, remove the limiter on the Carb H screw and advancing the timing of the saw on this site last night. I am gonna give it all a go!

My exhaust is definitely different to the pics I have seen online! Is there different exhausts in Europe to USA models? Mine looks smaller! And are the carbs the same?

The 201t in the video looks to pick up way quicker then mine, and the guy claims something like a 40% power increase after the few simple mods he talks about!

Has anyone done these mods? And got any results to share? Spudulike??

I've drilled the exhaust and removed the limiter on the carb and it made a hell of a difference but my 201 was one of the early ones 2011 which are the worst ones out of the lot. I didn't do the timing because it was my only climbing saw at the time and didn't want to knack it. I've got new top handle now so I'm tempted to do more mods on it to see if I can get it going like a beast. I asked spud if he's ported one but it seems like he hasn't yet or it can't be done

If 40% power increase is possible from the other simple mods, then I am not bothered about porting the thing! I am sure it will cut like a beast when I am finished with it! I am gonna do the exhaust and carb tomorrow, and re-tune it, see how she behaves after that. Mine is a 2012 model, always ran sweet, but always lacked power! I am just hoping the carb and exhaust are the same as the USA saw that this guy was talking about, and I get the power increase he claims!

I just looked again, my exhaust is definitely different to the exhaust the American guy has on his 201t as standard. Anyone know why they yanks have a different one? Can they be drilled just the same?

EPA in the USA (Environment Protection Agency ) will most likely be more restrictive than here , possibly , definitely if it is for the California market only .

I put a couple of clips up on YouTube showing the difference between my stock 201t and then once I'd opened the muffler (2x6mm holes).

I'll try and find them.

Edit: just search my name in YouTube.
