Nice one James. You got it out mate. Compared to your preliminary reckoning of 2 man x 5 per day x 5 days = 50 loads, it seems you actually did something like 15 days x 3 per day = 45 loads which wasn't far off on the load count. How many people did it though, if 2 x 15 = 30 man days then you were x3 out on that element maybe. You must have a better idea of what output is achievable with your set up.

Was your 280m3 stack volume the total including air space? Anyone got a good guess on air space for that product?

I have to say I'm impressed by that stack of timber especially taking into account its all been handballed, bet its nice to stand at look at your handiwork.

if you're interested I've got a pto powered circular saw with 4 metre conveyor on it which would speed up the processing side, based near York so not too far. pm me if you're interested

That saw sounds good, especially the conveyer.. However Chainsaw into the stack seems unbeatable on small diameter stuff. Using the top of the bar can easily chop through allot of pieces at once and take the stacks down in layers.

Thanks again

James

Not as quick as you might think with toms sticks we started like that before splitting them it takes an age and is surprisingly hard on the back and with the bits that don't need splitting the circular saw can go through 3or4 at a time at an alarming pace

What do you mean by using the top of the bar? I've never really got on with this technique for small stuff. Lots of getting wacked in the shins by flying pieces of branch wood. And I find that the stuff you've cut gets in the way of accessing the stack. I do still do it like this though... Any tips?

get/hire in a circular saw will cut at least 4 times as fast as a chainsaw we can fill a tattie box in about 15 mins without too much effort
