I have litttle experiance of types/makes of crane, But I will certainly recommend the radio control bit if you can afford it. We have it on Hiabs at the EA and it makes work so much easier to be able to move about and operate the crane.

My winch on the Landy is Lodar radio controlled makes felling with winch assistance childs play!

Hopkinson fairdeals had some immaculate 1317 4x4 mercs in recently for under £10 K The snowplow registration does get round the operators licence bit, but its white diesel and HGV.

err no

"The Goods Vehicles (Licensing of Operators) Regulations:

CLASSES OF VEHICLES FOR WHICH A LICENCE IS NOT REQUIRED

28. A vehicle which is being used for snow clearing, or for the distribution of grit, salt or other materials on frosted, icebound or snow-covered roads or for going to or from the place where it is to be used for the said purposes or for any other purpose directly connected with those purposes."

ANY other use = operators licence & change of VED class with the DVLA

Nope sorry. Once a VED class has been issued, its stuck for the life of the vehicle. Hence a unimog registered as HGV will not be able to be changed to agricultural vehicle, and a snowplow will always be registered as such.

However, I think they have clarified the wording on the usage.

err sorry but that is NOT the case and who ever has told you that EVEN if it was someone from the DVLA or VOSA do not know what they are talking about!

i heve been there & done it lots of times in the past with 4x4 & 6x6 trucks (e.g. hgv into AMV)

see How to exchange a tax disc

"You’ll need to exchange your tax disc if you make any changes to your vehicle’s construction or use that will change the tax class or the amount of vehicle tax you pay"

"Exchange your tax disc if you change the:

tax class (this does not apply for tax classes where

no vehicle tax is payable)

engine size (cylinder capacity)

type of fuel used

weight of a goods vehicle

number of seats on a bus

the use of a vehicle you have just bought"

remember change of tax class is normaly done at your nearest Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA) local office :fight:
