dealing with rude/wrong customers

Few months back i said to a retired american business man,when he finished telling me what he wanted "You're looking at around £300". He repeated what i said in a poor copy of a norfolk accent,and came out with "what sort of quote is that?" and he said it again.

So i rather sarcasticly said "it will cost £300 to do this work" thinking to myself take it or leave it mate.

After that got on real well,and he gave us a stack of other treework which we did later in the year. Takes all sorts.

 

To an American "about" would mean estimate so when you fixed it at £300 you would be offering a quote. If I estimate a job at about £300 and they get pushey for a fixed price I would err on the side of caustion and say £450

Thats ok Steve,i made good money on his later jobs,so i kinda got my own back on him for mimicking my (slight) norfolk accent.

Always get on better when quoting if you try to be friendly and laid back a bit,rather than talking to them like your reading a police prosecution statement.

:thumbup: as they say more than one way to skin a cat. My wife used to help out with generator service work before we had kids. I hate the consumable charge on bills so dont charge it but if my wife did not get offered a cup of coffee by the customer she would put it on :biggrin:

Simple - put the price up and enjoy a drink at their expense:thumbup:

 

Fortunately, I have found the large majority of customers have been 100% fine and always treat others with respect and honesty and tend to be treated likewise:thumbup:

 

This. I had a disagreement with someone as they argued over the retune of some saws. The saw came on for work about 3 weeks ago before Xmas.

 

They returned need a tune. I said £10, two saws, 30 mins of tuning a fully testing.

 

Argument, he hadn't used them since they come back from me, guess he didn't know they needed a tune then?

 

Simple. Next work I will do for him will be charged at a much higher rate.

 

It's business, don't do work for the love of the job...
