toyota amazon- towing capabilities.

Just putting out feelers on this one. The long and short of it being, I want a vehicle capable of handling a fully laden 3.5t trailer with relative ease. I live on pretty hilly country so this needs to be taken into account.

Currently have a defender 110 which pulls the digger and trailer, but it needs to be in low range really and even then a fair bit of huffing and puffing goes on.

So the amazon, just looking on eBay, which version/age is perhaps the most preferable for the above application. I rather hoped to avoid the auto box but it seems manuals are rarer.

Thanks for the help.:thumbup1:

Had Amazons for years when we run 300 tdi vans the Amazon was essential. When we went to td5 usefull. Now we have TDV6 not much in it but the disco 4 is expensive and badly made.

The auto Amazon is mutts nuts. I would rather tow 5 tonne behind a Landcruiser than 2 tonne behind a Defender. The manual lc is possibly better for long term ultimate towing but crap to use horrible linkage effort. The 100 series nicer to drive and live with, the 80 series is supposed to be better made but I did not think so.

We have a VX 4.2 24v diesel manual 80 series, has 320,000 miles on the clock regularly tows 3 ton plus, a few of the ponies have fled the stable, been through 2 clutches, Gets abused really really abused its nothing but a drag mule, with a family of nice living inside it.

The lacquer has melted off the bonnet from the time the engine over heated as no one checked coolant level.

It just doesn't die.

If I could afford to run one I would have one myself, I think they are amazing vehicles.

What about a Nissan Patrol?
