how is it done ?

It's done by drilling a big hole in the exhaust....

When I used to "Port" cars years ago, it involve a lot of time and effort removing sharp edges, burrs and lips from inside the head inlet and exhaust ports, lots of polishing and matching smooth flowing exhaust manifolds,

The chainsaw "porting" I've seen is crude, to say the least, but seems to work :001_tongue:

Don't you mean, the "Porters" you've seen do this are crude, to say the least :001_tt2:

iv never ported an exhaust, but iv taken the baffles out of a few saws...seems much more power... dont know if this is healthy for the saws????there still running ok but with alot more grunt:thumbup:

Apparently with saws you just need to set up the High jet setting afterwards to get the mixture right

if you alter your exhaust port in any way make sure you check what rpms you are turning afterwards with a decent tachometer. chances are you will have increased the rpms and will need to richen up the H screw a bit or risk burning up your top-end.

a general rule of thumb to get best gains, is to enlarge the muffler opening to 75% of the area of the cylinder exhaust port. and really a drilled hole is not ideal, a tube should be welded into the extra or enlarged hole you have created...
