Problem with tail lights on transit tipper

Or the wrong one, the pin pattern is common but the coil resistance varies, some units are designed to run 6 bulbs.

If you took one out of a discovery and fitted it to a transit you would get exactly what you have going on.

Sure its a long blue ford one... will get one ordered at some point and put it on :thumbup1: cheers

some very good advice here i use to look after to ford cargo,s same lights etc and there well known for being a bit poo bad earths bad spade connectors/ bulbholders are always rotten through dirt ingress not a very good light and from what i remember you had to make sure the lens was fitted back into its rubber before the outside clip/retainer was put back inplace or the lamp was,nt waterproof saltwater/winter/dirt/wet kills,em in no time i also had a ford in to repair and it had hazards but the indicator side was mad i ended up changing the ind stalk/switch

as for towing wiring

red >> stop

brown>> right sidelight

black>> left sidelight

yellow >> left ind

green >> right ind

blue >> fog

white >>> earth

oh and i just remembered i think some of the earths on the ford trucks are brown not black wiring a lot of cars from europe are brown also i,am talking about the truck now not the trailer wiring as thats white lol

On my transit. The indicators flash like mad. Like they would when a bulb is out.... yet when you put hazards on its normal :001_rolleyes:

No reverse lights so a real pain at the moment.... bridged switch but still no luck so just left it lol

Don't worry about reverse lights as they are not part of an mot or legal requirement for that matter.

The disco has been like it since I got it. Have to hold the gear lever over to illuminate them.

See if it's a common fuse. Bulbs don't normally all go at the same time so fuse would be my first place to check. :001_smile:

good point but are the front sidlights working or arn,t they on a differant fuse some trucks i worked on had a fuse for left side lights and one for the right etc

maybe a fuse if the trailer lighting cable/plug has shorted out ie crushed a trailer light squashed a bulb holder etc ??

good luck and hope you get it done soon dark nights and coppers on the prowl looking for easy targets £££££££££££

ps i got myself a trailer lighting plug tester its male/female so you can check the vehical aswell i got mine from towsure on the net very handy as its all led lights tell you whats not working etc

Right well I changed the fuse earlier, everything seemed ok all lights worked as they should....... For about 5 mins, I started the truck and left it running for while and then noticed smoke coming out of the dash, I quickly turned the lights and engine off and pulled out the new fuse. Now I'm really stuck I've got no idea what to look for, what would cause it to start getting hot and smoke?
