Securing a Defender

Picking up a 110 tomorrow and seeing that these things are very easy to steal/ break into im looking for some ideas for security.

Its not strictly a works vehicle so will be kept at my house overnight in a residential area. It will be used for occasional towing and for quoting, so no tools left in the back.

Its a 3 door by the way.

I dont believe it has any kind of alarm system fitted so that was my first plan with switches on the 3 doors and bonnet. Really looking for something more of a mechanical device to prevent it being pushed or towed away, steering lock maybe.

Any thoughts would be great, thanks.

X eng pedal lock

Not cheap but permanently fitted to floor and really easy to flip up and engage

Pay as you go tracker from tiso electronics in Cheshire £199 + vat for unit then asda pay as you go sim

Have both of these on my 130 and when I can afford it will probably also get x eng ignition lock protector and gear lock

Thanks Dave,

Do you have to pay a year subscription to the tracker company or is it a one off payment?

I have a 90 and a 110 on the drive and its a constant worry. I have been looking at quick release / snap off steering wheels on e-bay. Its all there ... steering wheel, boss and snap off boss kit. Seems to me to be a good idea to take the steering wheel off each night but I just cant satisfy myself that the wheel wont be right under my chin when its all on. Has anybody tried this ????

Funny you should mention those, had one fitted to a car i had a while ago due to being a 2 seater (tight squeeze to get in) and having bucket seats, I believe it was a Momo wheel. Did the job fine but i was always worried about it coming off whilst driving!

Just pay for the unit

No subscriptions ever just topping up the pay as you go SIM card when needed

Live tracking via there website activated by text

Give them a call and ask for Craig he's the owner and will explain how it all works better than i can here

Live tracking would be awesome and no subscription means even at £200+ would be worth while, May even look into one for the chipper also :)
