Disinfecting saws...

And so,

Again at lunch the discussion turns to the differences between France and the U.K with the latest news being that the French are trying to make the disinfecting of cutting equipment between trees a 'norm':confused1:

I am told this happens more in the South on planes and cedars.

Any thoughts before I stick my uneducated oar into this lunch time debate?

Regards

Ty

Me also. Have been concerned over cross contamination before. Have been met with the worfd "gives us more work for the future", a dullards response. Are there specific products on the market for this? I can imagine bleech could also have contamination issues:-)

As far as I can tell from it's data sheet Propellar is "just" 60 or 70% Isopropanol (Isopropyl alcohol) so a less costly alternative would be to buy Isopropanol directly which can be bought in small quantities and more cheaply than Propellar.

The alcohol is good bleach also works but not pure and let dry first. I carry a little bottle some time a mix of both. In the bottle is a sponge that fills the hole bottle. I find it good when a good old tree needs some TLC. To keep living. You can't do it for every cut. I try when changing position. I clean all my saws anyway at the end of the day with Oregon mx14 the hand saw look like new chainsaws are with air and the great oil spray called Balistol its like wd40 but smells better, and enviro better and killed bug.! Well it was used in the first world war for the guns and was sprayed on cuts to stop infection, but they don't advertise this any more euro regs. A clean saw cuts better anyway.
