PAYE, I think people should charge what they think there worth, I do the same pricing up jobs I charge what I think the company is worth and if i'm not the cheapest then I usually get the call any way just a few weeks later to tidy up the mess.

Some times we need an extra climber on the railway (PTS no prob will get TVP) would you consider subbing him out to me occasionaly in Tiverton struggling to find a good one down here and yours sounds amazing if he is £120 a day PAYE. Whats your climber called, wonder if i know him because i know of some other really good climbers from up your way but sadly dont sub them selves out any more.

Surely it depends on what you can bring to the party, I come with Transit tipper(chip box), 2 climbing kits, full rigging kit, all my own saws (6),own fuel and oil, own insurance, own flask and sandwiches, own Bensons.

Worth more than £120, hell yeah.

£25 per hour???

does that mean all those lads are on over £150 as employees or are they s/employed and paying little tax but then ther costs for tackle and insurance ect will actually bring the amount they actually earn down a bit

It depends on what you can do. i ain't going to pay a guy that has all the gear under the sun but is not good at doing the work...and would rather pay a guy that is great a working but uses my gear more.

Yeah:001_cool:, i'll be through tomorrow morning half seven ok?:001_tongue:

course it depends on what the climber can do. straight outta college subbying for £100+, Forget it.

As a contract climber you are almost the specialist being brought in, and should be able to handle anything, in any situation. That costs.

I charge what I charge but dont expect a site visit or anything, just tell me where and when, i'll be there with me spikes on, smash it down and help you drag out.

Horses for courses.

I've been lucky enough to work with Scott Forrest aka Gumpy (British and NZ climbing champ) and would easily be prepared to pay someone with his ability £200+ (gross) per day when the occasion demanded it. Which would generally mean a big tree.

The difference in productivity between the keen youngsters and the top dogs is massive. Not simply in climbing speed but also in speed of thought and decision making.

I also feel that EVERYONE in our industry makes about 50% of what they deserve when compared to other less arduous, much less dangerous trades.
