I know the one. Used to regularly cycle and run past it. Certainly is bleak up there. Dartmoor inn at Merivale is probably my closest pub as the crow fly's. Used run up there for cycle club meetings then back over the moors with a headtorch after a few pints  Ahh happy days.

yes happy days it certainly blows up there , before that they lived at the kennels in sampford spiney that is a pretty part of the moor:thumbup::thumbup::thumbup:

So when was that? I live just a stones throw from the kennels and have been here nearly forty years.

No just down the road from the church. OK quite a long stones throw but close by. Quite often wake to the sound of the hounds feeding time at stupid O'clock in the morning

the west counrty is really bad place,

no trees, no one with open fires / stoves

nothing for any one

so stay away

I went in this pub, quite nice Warren House Inn - History

No wonder there are no trees, the fire in the pub has been burning constantly since 1845.:001_smile:

Warren do a lovely burger and chips! Its always our stopping point from our way back from work if wev been over that side of the moor.

My parents have a farm on Hameldown and you can just see their top fields from the warren, that area of the moor is my favourite.
