HIAB Mounting?

Has anyone sucessfully mounted a HIAB (or similar) on the rear of your truck, as opposed to behind the cab, as seems usual?

Am thinking this might allow me to load onto my trailer as well as into the back of the truck. Obviously the tipping body would have to tilt sideways...

...has anyone made this work?

Shouldn't be to difficult if you have the right truck to take the weight that far back

Last time I had any building materials delivered the hiab on there truck was rear mounted and reached forward to the cab to pick up stuff and swung right round with a good reach for dropping it off

Not sure this would work very well, you would need to consider if a tipped load would cause problems with the stabiliser legs getting in the way.

It depends on what size load you are tipping off the side.

Anything can be done though

its not difficult, the main difference between a rear and front mount is that you need to space the rear of the chassis rails to stop them falling inwards

Most cranes have a mechanical lock to stop them working over the cab, take note of where this is, you may have to alter it to get a decent swing

The side tip is simple to do and you can save some weight by leaving the tipping ram out and tipping the body by using the crane.

Watch out for the rear axle load
