Hi all I'm new to the arborist world. I'm currently getting discharged from the army and have been going to sparsholt I have completed my cs30 and cs38. On my cs38 my instructor asked wether I would be up for running an extreme trauma first aid course specifically aimed at tree surgeons. I've been an army medic for 8 years served as an infantry medic and done two operational tours of Afghanistan with my battalion so I have a lot of trauma knowledge. Doing the aeriel rescue there seemed to be a lack of treatment involved with the right training I could teach arborists and potentials to save lives within minutes. I'm just posting this too we how many numbers of interests there are thanks for reading let me know if your interested.

In civy street there are 2 levels of qualification.

Appointed person is a short (usually one day) course with little time to cover anything in detail. Anyone can deliver the 1 day course

The more meaningful course is the HSE approved FAW course, usually delivered over 4 days allowing sufficient time to cover most aspects of first aid.

To deliver this course you will first have do draw up an appropriate course schedule and submit it to the HSE for ratification.

You will also need to provide details of anyone delivering the course who will need to be suitably qualified (holding the FAW cert is the minimum). You will also need to hold a teaching qualification.

Good luck with it.

Not aimed at tree surgeons at all, but covers the use of hem con / Celox etc etc and suspension trauma, including medical conditions, heart attacks, diabetes, airway management, trauma and catastrophic bleeds (just to mention a few)

Real first aid do a First person on scene intermediate (FPOSi) course.

I've taught and sat through loads of first aid / battlefield first aid lessons and courses, and be learned more on the above course than during my 9 years in the forces. I highly recommend it if your after something more in depth. It pisses all over the HSE first aid at work course.

Adam Gent (owner of Real first aid) runs courses at Perseus Risk Managent, based near Rugby. The course runs alongside a close protection course, but you do get people jumping in to do the FPOSi only.

Google "real first aid" or Perseus risk management ltd"

I'm also ex military and the level of first aid at my place is shocking, I'm trying to get them more involved with the stuff I learnt from my time (infantry) in the forces. I work for rugby council so might have to check this guy out 👍

A couple of months ago we attended a emergency /first responder type first aid course run by two paramedics.

They tailored the course for our type of work and was a great two/three day course. Great course and trainers

Since then our boss has bought the extra kit and is sending more lads on the course👍

If anyones interested ill see if i can dig out the name of the firms name

Just signed up too do a 3 day first aid at work + F (forestry) lantra course which is tailored more towards what we will unfortunately eventually probably deal with in this industry.

The arb aid training looks good as includes casualtie aerial rescue as part off it.

sent while pretending to do something important on my mobile.
