hello.

I went to blow out my 660 today and noticed i had lots of saw dust on the air filter bafel bit of plastic.

is there suposed to be an o ring or rubber gasket on the base of the filter??

All saws I have ever had do that . Sorta slightly oily deposit with dust in it . Close choke butterfly and wipe it out with some kitchen roll . No big deal .....

The secondary filter is a good idea and so is regularly cleaning the filter out - seen many saws come in for porting with caked up filters - Stubbys wasn't one of them:thumbup:

The inner filter can be cleaned with carb cleaner - a compressor is an excellent tool to do it well.

The saw will be OK with a light ingress of dust but if it gets heavier, it will take the plating off the cylinder.

Hi Spud, I have just seen an HD2 filter part number 0000 140 4402, would you recommend one of those instead of the original green plastic + gauze filter (+ pre filter) for my 046 (year 2000) ? I am after the best air filter that I can get to keep the saw going for another 13 years :)

Many thanks for your advice on this

Not a bad idea, the carb may need a little tweak after fitting but if you are doing a fair bit of dead dusty wood or have concerns then it is a good option.

Most that come in have either the two stage like you have or this filter - just keep it clean
