What a load of bloody rubbish- anyway, most staff I meet struggle with saw sharpening, it is ' an art' an needs practise. But it should be being taught properly so the blame is at NPTC / Lantra's door, definately. It is a core skill in our industry.

Love Khriss-The best saw sharpener in t'world.

( Gordon sez so tooo-so there)

i think you have just been unlucky mate in the last few trees you have felled:sad:, the bench grinder is great for getting them all the same size after a major nasty metal encounter, but then i always give them a going over with a hand file. today i was using an old chain on the 046 that i thought was for the bin, i gave it a quick sharpen and holy smokes i could hardly hang onto the saw, sometimes you can just get it spot on. if i were you i would get some spare chains and keep them in the truck.:001_smile:

ps. i can sharpen a 6 foot bar in 18 seconds, no more than 5 rubs a tooth:001_tongue:

Personally ime hitting a nail or piece of metal isnt that bad compared to hitting the soil(when I'm being a bit dozy) or hitting the dreaded piece of stone buried in the timber :scared1:

Ok the metal can damage a few teeth or even snap a couple but you can usually feel and hear it hit and react but with stone you think err whats going on here then to find it has destroyed a fair bit of chain

Dont forget it also matters what type of chain you use, a full chisel will get battered quicker than a semi or chipper.
